Recently, the Philippine Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources allowed previously closed mining companies to resume operations. The new Minister of the Environment Roy Simato confirmed in the briefing that these companies have corrected their mistakes. Earlier, the Philippines ordered the closure of about 26 mining companies on the grounds that these companies had various illegal activities.
