Gold miner Harmony is keen to re-engage the Papua New Guinea negotiating team “at the earliest opportunity” to secure a special mining lease (SML) for the Wafi-Golpu gold/copper project, which it owns in a joint venture with Australian miner Newcrest Mining.
Queensland allows more gas exploration.
The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) has welcomed the release of more than 3 000 km2 of land in parts of south-west and central Queensland for gas exploration.

Buffalo Coal subsidiary granted 30-year mining right.
Buffalo Coal’s 70%-owned subsidiary, Zinoju Coal, has been granted a 30-year mining right to mine coal primarily from the Aviemore North Adit reserves, in Dundee, in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province.
Zinoju holds a 100% interest in the Aviemore anthracite mine.
